My “Year of Seclusion (YoS)” is a social experiment wherein I remain housebound for an entire year accessing everything from grocery shopping to business meetings and conventions from the Internet.
Its official duration is from 1/1/2008 at 12:01 am PST to 1/2/2009 at 12:01 PST, but I started it informally on 12/2/2007 to see if I can withstand the housebound factor, and I spent 2007 experimenting with Second Life to test whether it can replace my reality. I discovered I could, and that Second Life can replace reality.
I have always had a penchant for hermitry, inspired by Thoreau’s Walden, and thus, while others may consider this experiment masochistic, I’ve had it on my list of “things to do” for quite some time now. However, I don’t believe my “YoS” would become true seclusion… and, in fact, may become the opposite because you’re never really alone when you’re online.
With time wasture due to travel out of the way, my goal is to get more things done. On the flip side of the coin, to avoid getting bored, I’ve scheduled a whole bunch of things to do this upcoming year. Here are some of my major projects:
- SL Shakespeare Company’s Hamlet
- Ina Centaur Enterprises
- ICFM
- IC-Skins Era 2008 (Launching on Chinese New Years, February 7, 2008)
- INAnimations
- SLebrities.NET
- SL Certification development
- BotSL
- Project sLiterary 2008: I have slightly less idea what this is than the Board knows…
